You'll be Glad You Know Me

There aren't many perks to being a FOC (Friend of Cupcake), so I suggest you enjoy them when they come along. It's summer in New York and that means one thing: the smell of stale urine in the subway is giving way to the stench of B.O. It also means another season of free concerts in Prospect Park, courtesy of Celebrate Brooklyn. All concerts are free, but they ask for a $3 donation at the gate. These concerts are held at the bandshell at Prospect Park, about one and a half blocks from my apartment. For a complete schedule, click here. This season includes a "Canada in New York" show featuring The New Pornographers, Stars and The Sadies, bands I am not actually cool enough to listen to, but I'm thinking about faking it.

The super exciting news is that Ben Folds and Rufus Wainwright are playing a benefit concert to support Celebrate Brooklyn. The tickets for this show are $35 and I'm still deciding whether to buy tickets or hang out in the hood and just see if I can hear the music. The Ben/Rufus concert is August 4th and I'll be checking in to see how tickets are selling. Let me know if you're interested.

Nancy--You must be IN the concert and experience the wonder that is Ben Folds. I have seen Ben 5 times and Rufus once--there is some serious booty shaking by these men in concert, especially Ben. You will not be sorry once you see Ben jump on top of the piano.

Yee Hah! I see now it is my duty to go to the concert. Mary's in! Who else wants to come? Let me add: you can picnic! No booze though, they check bags.
