Wait ... Wait...

How cute is this photo of Carl Kasell and Peter Sagal?

Seriously, how much stupider can the phone-in contestants on NPR's Wait, Wait Don't Tell Me get? Now, I think we're all familiar with Jeopardy!-syndrome, wherein you sit at home on your couch in your underwear and play along with Alex and the gang, barking out correct answers like a savant on crank, but we can all imagine that if we were actually in the television studio competing for actual dollars it might be a different story. I'm talking about a Public Radio gameshow where the contestants call in from their homes, so technically they could be sitting around in their underwear and yet we have exchanges like this:

Peter Sagal: "The clue is 'fins', rhymes with 'swish'...
Contestant: Sorry, I have no idea.

And while we're talking about good ol' NPR I caught a great moment on Fresh Air last week. Now, I love Terry Gross and I think she asks some really interesting questions of her guests. But one of the most bizarre questions I've heard in an interview was when she was interviewing Harry Connick, Jr. about his role in the Broadway production of The Pajame Game and, after remarking how good he looks with his shirt off, Terry asked Connick, and I'm paraphrasing here, 'so, do those muscles come in handy for anything, or do they just look good?'. Perhaps realizing what a strange question that was, she then covered by asking if his well-developed chest and arm muscles came in handy when he plays the piano. "No," admitted Connick, "maybe if I was moving the piano...". This is even funnier if you've noticed that Terry cooks up a reason to interview Connick about once a month. You could practicly hear the sound of her drool hitting the microphone. Terry, you dog, you- that's why you're my homegirl.

Funny, I always thought she was probably a lesbian. No hard evidence, just a hunch.

Did you ever hear the interview she did with Gene Simmons? He was such a jerk, but she took it with grace and aplomb!!
