Disturbing Personal Trends.

1. I seem to be putting on weight. In my neck.

2. I had my first notable dream about cupcakes last night. I was on a large airplane flying ... somewhere. Someone was carrying a bakery box of cupcakes they were bringing to an auction. They held up the cupcakes individually for me and I could ascertain which local bakery they came from. "That's a Magnolia cupcake," I told one woman. "I can tell by the pattern swirl on non-pareils on the icing." I had also baked cupcakes for the mysterious auction, mine had white fondant icing and blue sprinkles. In real life, I have no idea how to make fondant.

3. I haven't picked up my knitting in weeks.

4. When meeting new people in a social situation, I find myself asking, "So, what do you do?". I hated being asked this question when I was a) unemployed, b) a nanny but only because of the condescending treatement I would get in some company c) working a job that I hated as a personnel recruiter and I vowed that I would never ask this question to others. However, these words just seem to fall out of my mouth. Another problem is that as soon as I have asked someone what they do for a living, I remember I don't care so then I stop listening. Then I have nothing to say when the person tells me because a) I wasn't really listening and b) often I have no idea what they're talking about anyway. So I respond with, "Oh. That's nice."

Why do I keep asking this question? What is the answer I am hoping to hear?

"Actually, I'm an astronaut."
"Oh, that's nice."

Maybe this is just my subconscious' way of playing Marco-Polo with my future soul mate.

"So, what do you do?"
"I'm the personal assistant to Tony Danza."
"And do you find that spiritually fulfilling?"
"Very."
"Would you like to go someplace a little quieter?"

5. I find myself checking the Daily Heights message board about every 10 minutes.

Yeah man, the boards are addictive. The net was down at my job today! I don't know how I made it out alive!

It's just a natural thing to ask someone what she/he does. I seem to define others by what they do, but I sure as hell don't want to be defined by what I do.

I love the cupcake dream!

I had a dream last night where I was at a record shop...an honest-to-goodness record shop with vinyl LPs. In my dream, I took an entire crate of records to the turntable listening station and one-by-one I listened to every song on every album, whilst some poor sap waited impatiently behind me in line...and I didn't care.

It was beautiful...there's something about the pure joy indulging in your vices without the guilt that might occur in real life.
