Cake Expectations

Hey, remember that time last year when I had a birthday party and I tried to bake 124 cupcakes for the cupcake bar? Well, it's time for another birthday, except this year I won't be doing another baking marathon. Why? Why ... why ... why... Oh yeah, because that was insane. And because half of my cupcakes, due to an improper freezer storage idea, came out looking like this:

So this year, I will be ordering my birthday cake from the lovely Joyce Bakeshop, located conveniently across the street from my house. I think I should order the cake by Wednesday and right now I'm trying to decide if I should go with a classic yellow cake with chocolate frosting, a chocolate cake with brown sugar buttercream frosting or the Lemonberry cake with lemon curd and raspberry jam. Any thoughts?

The last two, for sure. You'll satisfy everyone, plus make me feel like a heel for not being able to celebrate with you.

Sometimes, living here's the pits.

When is your birthday, anyway?

I vote for all three! (There is no such thing as too much birthday cake!)

I'd go chocolate with brown sugar buttercream. That combo sounds just right for our newly delivered winter. Sorry mother nature didn't give you a better gift this year.

Hmm. See when I think "birthday cake" I always think of the traditional golden cake with chocolate icing. I'd like to try to brown sugar buttercream but I'm afraid that might be too much sugar considering how much alcohol will also be consumed. Well, I have to make a decision tomorrow. Maybe a dark horse candidate will emerge...
