Tag!

We've been tagged by Candicissima over at Kitty Power. Yes, the same Candicissima who recently wrote about babies, "Now the little devils invoke a feeling of terror. I try to avoid eye contact and the cute net. I see their evil schemes: first, they want to pop our your vagina and then, they'll take all your money. No thanks. Stay in your world, babies, and I'll stay in mine. "

Anyway, here's the tag:

"Da rules are: List seven songs you are into right now. No matter what the genre, whether they have words, or even if they're any good, but they must be songs you're really enjoying now. Then tag seven other people to see what they're listening to."

I'm pretty certain Candicissima tagged me just to make fun of my crap taste in music, but here's my list, with a little editorializing:

1. "Magnolia Mountain" Ryan Adams

2. "Beautiful Sorta" Ryan Adams; specifically for the way he counts it out, "When I say L-U-V you better believe me L-U-V. 1-2-3 Gimme a beer!"

3. "Landed" Ben Folds

4. "Song for a Friend" Jason Mraz; especially the third part of the song after the spacey musical interlude when he comes in with a choir of high school students backing him up, singing "Climb up, over the top, survey the state of your soul. You've got to find out for yourself whether or not you're truly trying."

5. "Breakdown" Handsome Boys Modeling School featuring Jack Johnson

6. Theme song from "My So-Called Live"; I hadn't seen this show in years, but I watched a few episodes on DVD with Johnny the other night, and as soon as you hear the first few beats of this opening, I am transported right back to 7th grade.

7. "The Ladies Who Lunch" Steven Sondheim's Company; this is a true story, I ordered Donnie Darko from Netflix last week and when it arrived, I let it lay around in its envelope. Then, sometime over the weekend I sat down to watch it, removed the DVD from the sleeve and saw they mixed up DVDs. Instead of Donnie Darko, the disc inside was "Elaine Stritch: At Liberty". I swear to God, you could not have come up with a more polar opposite to Donnie Darko than a 70-something Broadway doyenne performing a one-woman cabaret act. What the hell. I watched it anyway.

Here's who I'm tagging: EVed, Jesse, JoshedPotatoes, LeBrookski, EmilyM, Davenkamp, Sheena, Gregg.

FYI, Davenkamp was actually a site created by Drew that he was planning to use to write about things I was likely to complain about. Alas, he decided I might get upset, and so it now lays dormant. I'm pretty sure the password is Pinktaco if anyone here wants to use if for something, go ahead. I'll post my answers at PoE...

I think I watched that Elaine Stritch show when it was on one cable show or another...was she wearing tights and a big sweater? Did she talk about drinking and almost being Rock Hudson's 'beard'. If so it was strangely fascinating...and yet completely not Donnie Darko fascinating.

You got it, CC. That's exactly it. Stritch was also doing a Noel Coward impression and kept mentioning that she didn't lose her virginity until she was 30.
