Amazing Discoveries

For all the cupcakes in DC land needing a sugar fix, you should head over to Cake Love. Their prices look high but their cakes look delicious, so maybe you should save the visit for a special ocasion. Like when Cupcake comes to town.

Jonathan Ames, who should really replace Jonathan Lethem as my celebrity crush below, publishes /supports a blog called The Literary Dick. The format sucks but the premise is nirvana for a book nerd like me, you can write in about pressing literary mysteries and querries and the on-hand literary dectective (get it) will try to find the answer for you. Aparently it all began with the myth of Henry James' punctured testicle and his resulting asexuality. Fact or fiction? Let's see what the Literary Dick has to say.

Ok, Cakelove. You look so promising but your dry, cold cupcakes let me down every time.

Nance--are you coming to town? I'd love to grab dinner/drinks/cupcakes with you.

There is nothing worse than a dary cupcake, especially when you paid $3 for it.

No specific plans to hit DC, but I'm sure I'll get down there sometime this fall. When I do, I'd love to have a little get together at CakeLove so my few good DC friends could meet each other and we can all catch up!

on this note, does my chocolate queen know of a bakery that sells great flourless chocolate cake? and...this may be difficult, but do you have a favorite cupcake store in ny/brooklyn?? xox

Sad that this is what I have become known for, but hey, at least I'm good at something.

My dear Mondo, Baked, www.bakednyc.com makes a flourless chocolate cake around the holidays which they describe as November, December and February, however they said that they would probably make you one if you special ordered it. Baked is in Red Hook and offers delivery to certain areas and you might qualify! A cake, brought right to your door! Imagine! I haven't been there yet, so I think we should go some time and sample the baked goods just to make sure that they are up to our scrumptious standards. They look wicked yummy.

As for cupcakes, I need a little more info. Are you looking for homestyle, or showy icing creations? Standard flavors or exotic? Needless to say, I'm on it.

Three Red Hens on 8th Ave in Park Slope (at 12th) makes a great chocolate silk tart AND sells cupcakes (though I haven't sampled them).

Flourless chocolate cake is so easy to make too! I have a recipe for it and I remember being pleasantly suprised by both the ease of prepping/assembling/baking and the awesome finished product!

**back to working on the tag-thing... But warning to Cupcake - I seem to get tagged regularly and will be responding in kind!

Bring it on Tiffany, and perhaps you'd like to share your recipe with us? Mondo if you're kitchen shy maybe we could bake it at my place one afternoon.

Mel, I've had the Three Little Hens Brooklyn Black Out cupcake and it was good but pricey. Their full sized cakes look like knock-outs. MommyCakes trusts them for special ocasions and MC is ... particular, in a word.

I'd like the flourless choc. cake recipe, too. I'm about to die for a cupcake right now. Might have to run to the bakery down the street.

Strangely... I have an intense craving for cake!

There's nothing strange about getting a cake craving in these parts.
