"Hey Nancy," I heard through the closed door of my room, where I was inside, curled up, reading the first story in Rick Moody's Demonology. It was my roommate, L'Ingenue. "The Mouse is inside the garbage."
"Oh my God. The Mouse is inside the garbage? What are you going to do?"
"I'm going to take it out. [duh]"
L'Ingenue is a smart woman, a brave woman. I couldn't even stand to open the door of my room to salute her as she carried the wriggling bag of trash out of the apartment. But under my breath I did sing, "Did you ever know that you're my hero ... You are the wind beneath my wings..."
