George Bush finally does Something Nice for Me

That's right, President Bush is in Mainz, the same city where the home office for my company (We'll call them "Die Bank") is. The office has been boarded up for more than 36 hours now and everyone has the day off. As a result, my phone is ringing less, my email inbox is relatively empty and the good people of Mainz have been spared one day's worth of mediocre German eruptions from me. And how are the local Germans spending this day? Well, seven thousand of them are protesting. And since 1,000 police were engaged to protect the visiting Head of State, that's about 1 cop for every protestor. My guess is that the rest of the population, anticipating a day off work, is too hung over to squeeze into their Lederhosen, let alone waste precious energy thumbing their noses at our President. I am traveling to Mainz in April for work. Will thousands of pretzel- chomping Protesters line the streets in Nancy masks? Only time will tell.
